Last month we told you about the Ripcord Halloween Film Festival, the inaugural competition in which 50 horror, sci-fi, thriller, and fantasy shorts will compete for the largest first-place cash prize in short film festival history — $100,000. The festival received over 500 short film submissions, and the programmers announced today the 50 films that have been grouped into seven themed blocks.
The free festival launches online at ripcord.film on October 19, 2026, and registered fans can watch every film and vote for their favorites through October 22, 2026, to help select the Top 10.
Oh, did we mention that the Top 10 will also play at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre? While the winner will take home the big prize, the remaining nine selected short films will split another $100,000. The festival is open to films from the United States and Canada, but online viewing is geofenced to those countries.
“Fifty films made the cut from more than 500 submissions, and every one of them earned its spot,” said Charlie Cleveland, founder of Ripcord, in a statement. “These filmmakers made something distinctive, and now it’s the fan’s turn. Watch, vote, and help decide which 10 films take the stage at the TCL Chinese Theatre.”
Per the press release, the programming team selected films for their quality, distinctive genre voice, and role in balancing the overall lineup. The blocks loosely follow themes that emerged from this year’s submissions, and each balances tone and mixes film lengths so every block plays like a complete night at the movies.
“We built each block around a theme, then worked to make sure it moves the way a great evening should: a little creepy, a little funny, and sometimes deeply strange,” said Vanessa Meyer, Program Director of Ripcord’s Halloween Film Festival. “We think audiences will find a lot here that will surprise and excite them.” Check out the 50 short films below:
