It’s not easy to blend in with vampires as a human — especially when they’re your family. The BBC knows that better than anyone, as they’ve released the first trailer for their upcoming horror comedy series The Reluctant Vampire, which premieres at the beginning of next month.
Inspired by the beloved book of the same name by Eric Morecambe, The Reluctant Vampire follows a young boy who’s lived his entire life believing he’s a vampire, only to find out that he isn’t actually one at all. Stuck under the thumb of his vampire father who’s obsessed with sticking as close to the legends as possible, he starts living a double life, which inevitably leads to more chaos and confusion than anyone could’ve imagined.
The series stars Lenny Rush, who won a BAFTA for his work in Am I Being Unreasonable?, alongside Fleabag’s Sian Clifford and Tom Davis as his parents. The show also stars a variety of British comedy icons, including Asim Chaudry, Billy Bailey, Ross Noble, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, and Joe Wilkinson.
The Reluctant Vampire is adapted for the screen by Rob and Neil Gibbons, and it’s only appropriate that it’s full to the brim with comedians, given the book’s original author being one half of the double act Morecambe and Wise with fellow comedian Ernie Wise.
“We’ve got the wonderful Lenny Rush starring in it, and the Gibbons brothers, Neil and Rob, who’ve done a lot of Alan Partridge, came in and wrote their own scripts, but they did it without ‘losing Eric,'” said Morecambe’s son Gary to the Radio Times. “Which is a fantastic achievement.”
The Reluctant Vampire premieres in the UK on October 4.
