Five whole months after it premiered in theaters, Hokum is finally coming to streaming. Hulu announced that the NEON-produced horror film will be premiering on the streamer this October, making it the perfect addition to your Halloween watchlist.
Directed by Oddity helmer Damian McCarthy, Hokum stars Adam Scott alongside Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Michael Patric, Will O’Connell, Brendan Conroy, and Austin Amelio. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
When novelist Ohm Bauman retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents’ ashes, he is consumed by tales of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. Disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance forces him to confront dark corners of his past.
In our review of the film, Greg Greene says that “[t]he trajectory established with Caveat and Oddity sets a high bar for Damian McCarthy’s third film, and Hokum hits the mark.”
Hokum is produced by Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Derek Dauchy, Ruth Treacy, Julianne Forde, Mairtín de Barra, Ken Kao, and Josh Rosenbaum. The film joins other highly lauded horror projects on the platform, which also boasts the likes of The Ugly Stepsister, Together, Longlegs, Alien Romulus, and Send Help.
The film is also nominated for Best Screenplay at this year’s Chainsaw Awards, where it’s up against Obsession, Weapons, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and Faces of Death. Tune in to Shudder on October 25 to see if McCarthy’s third film takes home the trophy.
