The Brooklyn Horror Film Festival is one of the most exciting events of the year for genre fans, and this year’s lineup is no different. Today, Variety revealed the full lineup for the festival, which runs from October 15-22 at the Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, and it’s full of highly anticipated new releases, as well as special screenings of some Halloween classics.
The French mockumentary I Love Paris opens this year’s festival, presented by MUBI, while Nick Kozakis’s Australian film Kick On will close the fest, accompanied by Species (Sanguine) as its centerpiece film. Other high-profile films on the docket include Shudder’s new film The Cycle, Corpus, Godhead, The Only One, Kyra Elise Gardner’s Slay, Trauma, or Monsters All, and the east coast premiere of Rebekah McKendry’s new film Sundown.
But that’s not the end of this year’s offerings, of course. The main feature film lineup is also home to projects like The Glorious Dead, American Dollhouse, The Den, Full Moon Rising: The Charles Band Story, Little Doors, Night After Night, Posthumous, Roma Elastica, Split Rock, Sender, and Rubberhead: The Life & Monsters of Steve Johnson. They’ll also be running their annual secret screening, which they describe as a “must-see new gem that’ll make NYC’s horror fans kick themselves for missing.”
In addition to a wide variety of new offerings, Brooklyn Horror is also screening a series of retrospectives, with 35mm showings of Ghost in the Machine, J.D.’s Revenge, and Trick ‘R Treat coming to Nitehawk. Also on offer are screenings of The People Under the Stairs, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, and 1928’s The Passion of Joan of Arc, presented with a live score by The Flushing Remonstrance.
And it wouldn’t be a film festival without a healthy dose of short films, and this year is no exception. This year, they’re showing eight different themed blocks of shorts from around the world, including Nightmare Fuel, Head Trip, Culture Shock, Slayed, Laugh Now, Die Later, Death Grip, and two blocks of Home Invasion. These are accompanied by several special events put on over the course of the festival, including Final Exam Horror Trivia and a live recording of the Certified Forgotten podcast.
