Top Horror Movies Streaming This Week

Love, as one of humanity's most misunderstood emotions, has the capability to change our lives and who we are.  Our control over our lives and the decisions that we make are some of the only real powers that we have as individual human beings. Curry Barker's Obsession explores what might happen if the power to choose were ripped away from us through magical means.

What seems like a harmless wish for affection and love turns into a harrowing fight for control of the body and life of a woman. In many relationships that go bad, a fight for control over the relationship has caused many terrifying scenarios in real life. One of the things that is so relatable about the film is how simple the path to personal destruction is and how it is frequently paved with “good intentions.”

Obsession is now streaming on Peacock.

The Space Marines have arrived in the top ten, as have the Xenomorphs, as fans at home show how much they still love James Cameron's rock 'em and shock 'em sequel, Aliens. It was added to Netflix this month and instantly was added to the top ten. The film, which is a fan favorite in the series, was written and directed by James Cameron as his follow-up to his immensely popular second film, The Terminator.

Sigourney Weaver returns to the role of Ellen Ripley, the only survivor of the Nostromo, aside from Jones the cat, and Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein, and Carrie Henn join the cast as characters that soon became beloved and quotable additions to the series.

Aliens is now streaming on Netflix.

The film starring Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, and Melissa Leo has the advantage of capturing the power and awe of the open road and the dangers hiding in plain sight. As travelers, we take for granted the safety of the highways of the United States, and André Øvredal's newest film takes on the phenomenon of people in the United States seeking freedom by becoming modern nomads.

Most people feel safe and comfortable while traveling by car, but for those of us who have run into trouble on the road, it is a jarring reminder that many dangers await the unwary. There are many ways to come to grief while driving, and putting a demonic entity that can control reality on your trail is a fear that can make you rethink your next road trip.

Passenger is now streaming on Paramount+.

It's not safe anywhere in the horror genre, and making your home a place to fear and be trapped in is a particularly unnerving idea. The idea that the one place where you should feel safe is a dangerous trap has been used in many different ways, but it has a special cachet, especially for homebodies and those who love their freedom to come and go.  It sets off alarm bells for many different horror fans.

Louis Leterrier directed the film, which stars Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, and it also raises the specter of how prepared we are for disaster. No one likes to think that the world could be thrown into disarray, but what would you do if an unimaginable power took hold of our planet? How would you save yourself and the people you love?

The Last House is now streaming on Netflix.

This uncanny terror tale is set during the courtroom trial of an accused murderer who may or may not have murdered three young girls on a dark web website that broadcasts snuff films for the pleasure of a sadistic audience. What drives people to watch trials when they don't have a personal stake in the outcome or know the people involved? Is it morbid curiosity that drives the interest in “True Crime” or something more benign?

Juliette Gariépy, Laurie Babin, Elisabeth Locas, Maxwell McCabe-Lokos, Natalie Tannous, Pierre Chagnon, and Guy Thauvette star in writer and director Pascal Plante's searing examination of human motives and desires as they relate to the human interest in this particular genre of entertainment.

Red Rooms is now streaming on AMC+, Prime, and Shudder.

Writer and director Ben Wheatley has made several excellent and disturbing films, and this new addition to the top horror movies streaming this week list is no exception. It was made in 15 days in September 2020 and stars Joel Fry, Reece Shearsmith, Hayley Squires, Ellora Torchia (Midsommar, Cold Storage), John Hollingworth, and Mark Monero.  It tells a tale of an England under quarantine from a mysterious plague.

We have previously touched on In the Earth in an article about Fungal Horror; the particular fungus is mycorrhiza, or a combination of a fungus and a plant with a symbiotic relationship. The characters in the film come to find out that the forest they are exploring isn't quite what it seems and has something on its own mind.

In the Earth is now streaming on Kanopy and Netflix.

The only actor in the original cast of Weapons who held onto his role no matter what is Austin Abrams, and he continues to work with the writer, director, editor, and composer of Weapons, Zach Cregger. In Cregger's upcoming film, Resident Evil, Abrams' talents are showcased as a lone medical deliveryman, and he quickly earns sympathy and interest as an everyman caught in the worst of situations.

As the hapless and unhoused drug addict,  James, you can't help but feel a sense of empathy for the character, and that is the subtle power of Abrams as a performer. Among a cast including Academy Award winner Amy Madigan, Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Cary Christopher, Toby Huss, and Benedict Wong, Abrams stands out.

Weapons is now streaming on HBO Max and Prime. Weapons will leave Prime in twelve days.

The quiet success of fall 2025's slate of genre films continues to reach more and more fans nine months into 2026. Director Francis Lawrence's powerful and brutal film is more than just a story of survival; it is a story of the power of humanity and friendship that not even death can destroy. With a script by JT Mollner and an exceptional cast: Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Joshua Odjick, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill, it is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit.

Even while marching to their deaths in a ghoulish televised broadcast, these young men discover what really matters and how: while people will die, ideas do not.  They learn that defiance and the spirit of revolt are immortal as they pass from one person to another.

The Long Walk is now streaming on HBO Max.

The first and only found-footage film of writer and director M. Night Shyamalan's career was the one that caused a mid-career resurgence of popularity for the auteur. It was also the only film to feature a rap by one of the cast members. While the director was known for his “twist” endings, The Visit features a particularly frightful narrative as it shows a particularly terrible thing that can happen between estranged family members and was called a “return to form” for Shyamalan.

The cast was largely made up of unknown actors, including Olivia DeJonge, Ed Oxenbould, Deanna Dunagan, Peter McRobbie, and Kathryn Hahn, which adhered to the tradition of found footage films' casting standards, namely, no big stars to distract the audience from a growing sense of realistic terror.

The Visit is now streaming on Prime.

English writer and director James Thomas Watkins' third film went from being called “hoodie horror” and has morphed into a cult classic known for its chilling and utterly bleak story.  The film stars Kelly Reilly, Michael Fassbender, James Gandhi, Thomas Turgoose, Bronson Webb, Shaun Dooley, and Finn Atkins, with an early role for Jack O'Connell, who has gone on to create some of 2025 and 2026's greatest villains.

It is the story of a young, carefree couple taking a vacation at a remote lake who are confronted with pure evil in the form of a gang of violent teenagers who hunt them through the woods.

Eden Lake is now streaming on Prime.
