Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick made a Family Movie last year, and now it’s coming to theaters. Deadline reports that Variance acquired the North American distribution rights to the film, which also stars Sosie and Travis Bacon, and will release it theatrically next spring.
From a script by Dan Beers, Family Movie chronicles the real-life family of filmmakers as a set of fake ones, whose low-budget slasher becomes a real crime — and not just at the box office — when a body turns up on set. The four realize that the only way to keep their film on track is to cover up the murder, even if it means letting everything spiral totally out of control.
The film also stars Liza Koshy, John Carroll Lynch, Jackie Earle Haley, Andrea Savage, Austin Amelio, and Scoot McNairy, and all four members of the family produce the film, alongside Vince Jolivette, Casey Durant, Greg Lauritano, and Russell Wayne Groves.

“The entire process of making Family Movie has been a true labor of love,” said Bacon and Sedgwick, “and after seeing the audience reactions at multiple film festivals around the world, we knew this movie had to be experienced in the theater. While we considered traditional distribution options, we decided to put our faith in our film, the audience, and the evolving landscape of independent film and go straight to the theaters with this fun crowd pleaser.”
Sedgwick and Bacon have been married for nearly forty years, but have only starred together in a miniscule few projects. Their last was the double bill of Cavedweller and The Woodsman nearly twenty years ago, though they’re also set to star alongside each other in Connescence, directed by Michael J. Weithorn. Meanwhile, Bacon’s been starring in plenty of horror films lately, including MaXXXine and They/Them, while the couple’s daughter Sosie made a name for herself as the lead of Smile.
Family Movie premieres in theaters on April 23, 2027. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
