If you could solve a murder that’s haunted you for thirty years, would you? Perhaps it’s better to leave well enough alone, as it is in the trailer for The Cycle, a new horror film coming to Shudder this fall that just dropped its first sneak peek.
Starring Daredevil and The Punisher alum Deborah Ann Woll, The Cycle is directed by Jordan Downey from a script he co-wrote with Kevin Stewart, and also features Jeffrey Donovan, Will Hochman, Jack Doolan, Carl W. Crudup, Jeb Berrier, Gretchen Corbett, and David Myers Gregory. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
When the body of a man missing for thirty-six years is discovered at the scene of a horrific crime, it’s up to his estranged daughter to unravel his dark past.
The Cycle isn’t Woll’s first rodeo when it comes to horror, either. While she’s primarily known for playing daring reporter Karen Page in the MCU and for her dungeon master skills hosting TTRPGs, she also starred in the 2019 film Escape Room, as well as its sequel Escape Room: Tournament of Champions in 2021. Meanwhile, Downey is best known for writing and directing the “Stork” segment of V/H/S/Beyond, the seventh installment in Shudder’s popular anthology series, so he’s no stranger to working with the platform.
Produced by James Harris and Michael Downey, The Cycle is just one of many highly anticipated titles hitting Shudder this fall. They recently premiered the Midori Francis-led body horror Saccharine, and August will see the premiere of films like The Yeti, Hellcat, Buffet Infinity, and Penny Lane Is Dead.
The Cycle premieres on Shudder on October 23.
