News of a new Longlegs movie may have come as a big surprise last month, but Paramount Pictures is wasting no time getting in calendars, with a release date officially set for January 14, 2028.
Described as less of a sequel and more something set in the Longlegs universe, Longlegs 2 (title TBA) will see Osgood Perkins return to write and direct, with Nicolas Cage returning to his role as the deranged titular serial killer. No news yet on who else is cast, or if Cage's Longlegs co-star Maika Monroe will return as FBI Agent Lee Harker.
As previously mentioned, NEON, whose incredible, terrifying marketing campaign helped Longlegs become the highest grossing independent film of the past decade, will not distribute the new Longlegs movie, with Paramount instead picking up rights. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this could be due to Longlegs 2‘s budget being “above [NEON's] norm”, while horror is a “priority” at Paramount.
While not his first movie by a long shot, Longlegs is easily Perkins' biggest hit to date, racking up $128 million at the global box office from a budget of just $10 million, and putting him on the map as one of horror's hottest working filmmakers, a title only further established by his following two features, The Monkey and Keeper, which were a hit with genre fans.
As expected, plot details for the new Longlegs movie remain firmly under wraps, but personally we're hoping for an origin story that tells how Longlegs, aka Dale Kobble, got into both glam rock and crafting murder Satan dolls. Given Longlegs' ominous promise that he'll be “a little bit of everywhere”, we could also see the story drifting into more overtly demonic territory. Perhaps a Longlegs possession tale is on the cards.
Whatever the case, stay tuned for further updates.
