Zach Cregger's Resident Evil, easily one of the most anticipated horror movies of 2026, finally revealed its first teaser yesterday out of Sony's CinemaCon panel. Unfortunately, us non-CinemaCon attendees don't get to see it until Sony decides to release it publicly, but we do have eye-witness accounts of the new nightmares the Barbarian and Weapons director has cooked up for us this time:

Starring in Cregger's new take on Capcom's iconic survival horror gaming series, Resident Evil stars Austin Abrams (Weapons), Paul Walter Hauser (The Naked Gun), Kali Reis (True Detective) and Zach Cherry (Severance).

Taking place in the same universe of the games but not related to any previously known characters (sorry, Leon S. Kennedy stans) or any of Paul W.S. Anderson's previous Resident Evil movies, Cregger's third feature was co-written with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead), and follows hapless courier Bryan (Abrams) who is tasked with delivering a package to a remote hospital. He soon finds himself caught in the middle of an outbreak from a hospital in Raccoon City, and must fight through hordes of mutated creatures to survive.

Those mutated creatures were apparently front and center of last night's teaser. ScreenRant has kindly provided the following description:

Star Austin Abrams is seen walking in the snow before knocking on the door of a house. The door opens, and Abrams asks to use the phone because of car troubles. When he calls, it goes to voicemail. Abrams is then seen running into the barn, searching for weapons. He finds a body. Then Abrams is in a sewer and sees a person sitting there. He's seen running into the snow again and locking zombies in a room. Abrams is then seen in a city where bodies are dropping from skyscrapers and falling onto parked cars.

ScreenRant also detail that Cregger himself was on hand to introduce the first clip, reassuring fans that he's played a “shit load of Resident Evil”, and we don't doubt him.

The Resident Evil teaser marks the latest development in an already exciting year for Resi fans, who already got to enjoy the record-breaking release of Resident Evil Requiem earlier this year, with a DLC and mini game still en route.

Resident Evil hits theaters and IMAX on September 18, 2026 via Sony Pictures. For more, here's our rundown of the 15 most terrifying moments across the entire game franchise.
