If you didn't catch it in front of Scream 7 this past weekend (or the following leak), the first trailer for Scary Movie (aka Scary Movie 6, but they're going for the requel title treatment) is now officially live, and it looks like we got most of our spoof predictions correct. See how many you can spot:
Hitting theaters on June 12, Scary Movie sees Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Wayans, aka the Wayans Brothers, return for directorial duties on the comedy-horror franchise, with main series duo Anna Faris and Regina Hall also returning. The parody pic also stars two Scary Movie alumni: Cheri Oteri, who appeared in the original film, and Chris Elliott, who featured in both Scary Movie 2 and Scary Movie 4, as well as Heidi Gardner, scream queen Felissa Rose, Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, and Jon Abrahams, and new faces in the form of Olivia Rose Keegan, Savannah Lee Nassif, Cameron Scott Roberts, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Ruby Snowber, and Benny Zielke.
An official logline for Scary Movie reads:
Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.
Well, there you have it folks. Any fears that a new Scary Movie would shy away from lowbrow, offensive humor were unfounded.
Scary Movie 6 is produced by Alvarez, Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, and Thom Zadra. The film will be the first in the popular comedy franchise in thirteen years, after the box office failure of Scary Movie 5 in 2013, and the first to feature both Faris and Hall since 2006’s Scary Movie 4.
