Our own Chainsaw Awards writer and director Michael Varrati is certainly keeping busy in the off-season โ€” this time, by moving into comics! Stacked Deck Press has announced that the Thereโ€™s a Zombie Outside director will be co-editing Four Seasons of Fear, a queer comics anthology all about the scariest holidays of the year.

Four Seasons of Fear will feature stories based on popular holidays, including Christmas, Easter, and of course Halloween, but also include tales for less known or celebrated holidays, such as May Day, Juneteenth, and Rosh Hashanah, and seasonal events like going back to school. The full-color, two hundred page book will feature over two dozen queer comics creators, including Josh Trujillo, Shannon Watters, David Booher, and Wilfred Santiago.

Varrati serves as co-editor on the project alongside cartoonist Tara Madison Avery, as one of many projects heโ€™s currently got in the works. Alongside hosting the popular film podcast Midnight Mass, he also recently produced and directed Paramount Scaresโ€™ new online miniseries Camp Crystal Legacy, all about the lasting impact of the Friday the 13th franchise, as seen through the lens of both its audience and the people who made it.ย

Avery, meanwhile, serves as publisher for Stacked Deck Press, which focuses on LGBTQ+ centric comics, art books, and prose. Their other titles include the Ignatz Award-winning Here: An All-Trans Comics Anthology, and We Belong: An All-Black/All-Queer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Comics Anthology.

No release date has been announced for Four Seasons of Fear. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
