Viral YouTube horror adaptationย Backrooms finally has a release date, with A24 announcing today that Kane Parsons' feature debut will officially hit theaters on May 29, 2026.
Produced by James Wan for Wanโs Atomic Monster,ย Backrooms stars Chiwetel Ejiofor (The Life of Chuck, Mike Flanagan's The Exorcist) and Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World, A Different Man), as well asย Creep‘s Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett (True Detective), Lukita Maxwellย (Afraid) andย Avan Jogiaย (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City).
Based on the viral series of found-footage videos from filmmaker and VFX artist Parsons (currently A24's youngest ever director at just 20 years old), which are themselves based on a 4chan creepypasta,ย Backrooms follows a young filmmakerโs fall into another dimension leaves him wandering through an unsettlingly yellow, empty and labyrinthine office space, which may or may not be home to otherworldly beings. The first video in the series, titled โThe Backrooms (Found Footage)โ racked up 66million views since its release four years ago.
Parsons directed Backroomsย from a screenplay by Will Soodik, with Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen and Dan Levine producing for 21 Laps. Michael Clear produces alongside Wan for Atomic Monster.
