If you were ever scared out of your wits by a Goosebumps book as a kid, Boom Studiosโ newest one-shot is just the thing for you. FANGORIA is excited to partner with the comics publisher to announce The Life and Death of Lucas Dreamwalker, a brand-new one-off story from famed author and father of every millennialโs horror obsession, R.L. Stine.ย
Originally published as part of Boom Studiosโ anthology series Hello Darkness in 2025, The Life and Death of Lucas Dreamwalker features art by Francesco Francavilla to accompany Stineโs story, published now as a one-shot comic for the first time, with a variant cover by Rebeca Puebla. The story follows a man dying in his dreams, and as he approaches his third death, asks the question of how many times you can be killed in a dream before your death becomes permanent in the real world.ย
The original Hello Darkness anthology also featured stories by beloved horror authors Garth Ennis, James Tynion IV, Cullen Bunn, and more, but it wasnโt the first time Stine ever dipped his toes into writing a comic series. He worked on a 2019 Man-Thing series for Marvel Comics, and has worked extensively with Boom Studios in the past, on titles like Hello Halloween, Just Beyond, and Stuff of Nightmares.ย
But that isnโt all thatโs coming from the beloved author this year. Best known for writing the Goosebumps series that gave us all a terrible fear of things like ventriloquist dolls, Stine continues to write new books in the series, with two new titles in the Goosebumps: House of Shivers series hitting shelves this year: One Night at Camp Bigfoot and What We Do in the Night, arriving in March and August respectively.ย
The Life and Death of Lucas Dreamwalker #1 hits shelves on May 27. Check out an exclusive preview of its cover art down below.
