Shudder's Senior Vice President of Programming and Acquisitionsย Sam Zimmerman is trading one horror powerhouse for another, with a new role as as Senior Vice President, Development and Acquisitions at Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
Per Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, Zimmerman will oversee a focused slate of feature films from emerging filmmakers, serving as a “bit of a liaison” between the two sides of Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Horror powerhouses Jason Blum and James Wan merged their companies back in 2024, with upcoming productions includingย Lee Cronin's The Mummy, Insidious: The Bleeding World andย Paranormal Activity 8.
Deadline also report that Zimmerman will beย producing and/or overseeing films in the $2-8M range, with an emphasis on filmmaker relationships, creative incubation, and long-term collaboration across the Blumhouse-Atomic Monster slate, as well as ย working closely with the companyโs recently announced Divide/Conquer overall deal.
In a new statement, here's what Zimmerman had to say about his new role:
โThese are companies that have always understood that great genre films start with filmmakers who are given trust and creative space. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have been doing this work for years. Iโm excited to build on that foundation and support filmmakers working at a scale that encourages bold ideas and inventive, frightening storytelling.โ
Atomic Monsterโs president Michael Clear adds:
Sam has exceptional taste, deep relationships in the genre community, and a track record of championing filmmakers with singular visions […] This initiative will serve to reinforce the companyโs core values while also allowing us to engage with filmmakers earlier, support them meaningfully, and foster a community of emerging voices.โ
All of us at FANGORIA, where Sam started his extensive career as a Fango intern, would like say a huge congratulations to Sam on this exciting new position.
