According to bloggers and thinkpiecers across the Internet, 2026 is apparently the year where we're switching our terminally online existence for a more analog one. That means unplugging from doomscrolling on socials, shielding our eyes from the consistent onslaught of ugliness spawned by Gen AI, and cancelling our streaming services in favor of actually owning the media we love. Whether you're a long-term lover of physical media or new to the party, start your 2026 shelf off right with our recommendations of 10 of the best new horror 4K and Blu-ray releases coming this January.

  • 1408 (4K UHD SteelBook) - Lionsgate

One of the more underrated Stephen King adaptations out there, Mikael Hรฅfstrรถm'sย 1408 stars John Cusack as a cynical author investigating supposedly haunted locations. When a chance to stay in the notorious room 1408 of the Dolphin Hotel, rife with paranormal activity, not even the Dolphin's long-suffering manager Mr. Olin (Samuel L. Jackson) can dissuade him.

Based on King's short story from the 1999 collectionย Blood and Smoke,ย 1408 is creepy because of its simplicity. There's no rabid Saint Bernards or telekinetic teens here – just, as Olin puts it, an evil fucking room. Lionsgate's new SteelBook 4K UHD release comes with both the Theatrical and Director's cut ofย 1408, commentary, alternate endings, featurettes and more. Pre-orderย 1408 for a January 13 release right here.

J-horror master Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Pulse) made a triumphant return to genre last year with the capitalist killer thrillerย Cloud, which is part of a new limited edition two-film set from Eureka! Video that also includes the 1999 philosophically-tinged drama Charisma,ย which stars Kurosawa mainstay Kลji Yakusho as an ex-cop who relocates to a remote mountain village where he finds himself at the centre of a conflict over an enigmatic tree that the locals refer to as “Charisma”. Inย Cloud, Masaki Suda stars as an ambitious, yet directionless, young factory worker from Tokyo, who side-hustles in black market reselling, cheating both buyers and sellers. Needless to say, his hustling doesn't go down all that well for them.

Eureka!'s new release comes with brand new writing on both films from Japanese cinema expert and Midnight Eye co-founder Tom Mes, as well as new audio commentaries and video essays. The Cloud andย Charisma set is available to pre-order here for a January 26 release.
