Dark fantasy horror-dramaย The Thing With Feathers gets an eerie new trailer today ahead of its theatrical release on November 28 via Briarcliff Entertainment.

The feature debut from filmmaker Dylan Southern,ย The Thing With Feathers stars Benedict Cumberbatch as a newly widowed father struggling to cope:

Left to raise two young sons after the unexpected death of his wife, Dad's life begins to unravel. Grief is messy and chaotic enough as it is, but when it takes the form of an unhinged and unwanted house guest – Crow – taunting him from the shadows, things start to spiral out of control…but maybe that's exactly what Dad needs.

Also starring are Richard Boxall, Henry Boxall, Eric Lampaert, Vinette Robinson, and Sam Spruell, with David Thewlis providing the voice of Crow.

An adaptation of Max Porter's acclaimed novella, The Thing With Feathersย had its World Premiere at Sundance earlier this year, with its International Premiere at Berlinale. In an interview with Screensphere, Southern expanded more on what drew him to the source material:

I think one of the things I loved about The Thing With Feathers was that it wasnโ€™t about grief being stages that you move through, and then come out of the other end healed in some way. It was very realistic about the idea of grief and thatโ€™s something you go through. Every person will unfortunately have to go through it at some point. Grief isnโ€™t something that you can move past, itโ€™s something that will be with you for the rest of your life but there is a way to make it useful and thatโ€™s what I liked about Maxโ€™s book. Itโ€™s that it was incredibly hopeful and I think in this film there is a duality to it
