Friday the 13th fans still have to wait for a new movie, which may well finally be in the works (more on that in a minute). In the meantime though, the folks at Horror Inc. and Jason Universe have been trying to fill the void with products featuring Jason Voorhees. That naturally includes Halloween costumes, Funko Pop! figures clothing and even branded Angry Orchard hard cider, but it also includes a Jason Chia Pet. Yes, really. Behold!

As we can see, the folks behind Jason Universe have collaborated with the Chia Pet folks to bring us this collaboration that nobody asked for. All the same, itโs delightfully bizarre. Who doesnโt want a Jason Voorhees planter that will eventually grow a green Bob Ross afro made of an actual plant? Itโs never too early to start getting those Christmas wishlists together, dear reader.
The Jason Chia Pet is available now and currently retails for $21.99 on Amazon. I know what youโre thinning, it would be a bargain at any price. But everything has a price and the price for this priceless bit of weirdness is $21.99. Do with that information what you will. My apologies to anyone whose credit card is within striking distance.
For longtime fans of the franchise, itโs been a bumpy road. The last time we had a new Friday the 13th movie was the 2009 remake. Ever since, the rights were tied up in a messy legal battle that held up any new projects featuring Mr. Voorhees for a long time. Fortunately, thatโs finally starting to change. Jason Universe released a new official short titled Sweet Revenge earlier this year, which you can watch right now. Thatโs just the tip of the iceberg.
The team behind Jason Universe has promised much more in the coming years including a new video game and yes, a new movie. Details on that movie remain under wraps as there are still rights issues that are at play. Essentially, the rights got split up between original screenwriter Victor Miller and director Sean S. Cunningham. Itโs rather complicated.
Thatโs why A24 and Peacock are making the Crystal Lake prequel TV show as we speak. That will largely be focused on Pamela Voorhees, as we understand it. What seems clear is the gang at Horror Inc and Jason Universe will be limited in what they can and cannot do with a new movie, so it will be interesting to see how they make that work. In the meantime, weโre left with Chia Pets and Jason-themed food at Halloween Horror Nights.
You can order your very own Jason Chia Pet right now on Amazon. For more, check out FANGORIA #12 from the archives, featuring Friday the 13th Part 2 on the cover.
