The release ofย Resident Evil Requiem is right around the corner, and we're more excited than ever to return to Raccoon City, especially as it's confirmed that fan favorite character Leon S. Kennedy will be back in a dual protagonist role.

Launching on February 27, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the ninth mainline entry in the series is set 30 years after a missile strike destroys Raccoon City, and follows both investigate reporter Grace Ashcroft, daughter ofย Resident Evil Outbreakโ€˜s Alyssa Ashcroft, and Leon, whose last appearance in the game timeline was inย Resident Evil 6.

As Resident Evil Requiem commemorates the 30th anniversary of Capcom's legendary survival horror series, we can surely expect to see a few more cameos from beloved characters of Resident Evils past – producer Masato Kumazawa has basically confirmed as such, after all. While the rumor mill is working overtime, we've got our own ideas of who should make a comeback, and why.

NB: It goes without saying that we'd love to see the rest of Resident Evil's ‘Core Four' back together, but in the name of fairness, we're leaving Jill, Chris and Claire off this list in favor of less spotlighted characters.

  • Ada Wong

If we had to put cold, hard cash on any character returning forย Resident Evil Requiem, it'd be Ada Wong. The sultry spy has appeared in every game that Leon has, as well as most of the animated movies, and the pair's will-they-won't-they romantic relationship (or lack of) has been a key conversation topic among gamers since Resident Evil 2.

The last time we saw Ada, she had defeated her own clone inย Resident Evil 6 and, presumably, returned to her life as an independent anti-hero. However, she was initially planned for a role inย Resident Evil Village, where she would've helped protagonist Ethan Winters in his fight against the moldy Mother Miranda. Concept art shows Ada wearing a badass plague doctor outfit, sporting a more mature (but still incredibly glamorous) appearance that will probably serve as the basis of her design should she appear in Requiem, now in her early 50s, matching Leon who is canonically 51 years old inย Requiem.

If Ada does show up inย Resident Evil Requiem, it'll be a fitting end for both her and Leon's arcs, whether they retire and jet off into the sunset together, or one of them falls victim to whatever viral monstrosity awaits them this time.

  • Rebecca Chambers

There's plenty of badass ladies within the world ofย Resident Evil, but none with brains quite like Rebecca Chambers. The plucky biochemist has saved Leon's butt a few times, most recently in Resident Evil: Death Island, and he did the same for her inย Resident Evil: Vendetta.

Poor Rebecca hasn'tย really had her time in the spotlight, game-wise, sinceย Resident Evil Zero all the way back in 2002 where she was a playable protagonist. However, if, like the Resident Evil Requiem trailers seem to be hinting, Leon is infected with some new terrifying virus strain (peep the moldy neck), he's going to need Rebecca's help, stat.

  • Carlos Oliveira

There's a running joke amongย Resident Evil fans that the heroes of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira, are often forgotten and ignored in favor of the series golden boys Leon and Chris. If Capcom really wanted to prove us wrong, they'd bring back Carlos, as we haven't seen the charming mercenary for far too long.

Resident Evil writer Yasuhisa Kawamura confirmed via Twitter that after the events of Resident Evil 3, Carlos returned to South America and had extensive plastic surgery, changing his appearance to evade Umbrella.

Sadly, Carlos appearing inย Requiem remains highly unlikely, as he wasn't involved with the Raccoon City incident of Resident Evil 2,ย and has no real ties to Leon. He does, however, have big beef with Umbrella, so maybe we will see him, sporting his brand new look.

  • Sherry Birkin

Aside from Ada, Sherry Birkin is probably the most likelyย Resident Evil character to show up in a Leon-centric arc, and we really hope she does. After being rescued by Leon and Claire in Resident Evil 2 when she was just 12 years old, poor Sherry had to watch her mom Annette turn into a power-hungry supervillain, and watch as her dad William became a giant, grotesque, mutated monster. On top of all that, she's also kidnapped and held hostage in the remake. No wonder Leon is protective of her.

Obviously, Sherry has personal ties to Raccoon City and everything that went down there. She's also, as Resident Evil 6 established, a DSO Agent, meaning a potential return for Resident Evil Requiem makes perfect sense. ย Eagle-eared fans have also speculated that it's Sherry speaking to Leon through his earpiece at the beginning of the Requiem trailer.

  • Sheva Alomar

Ok, sure, this one'sย definitely wishful thinking given that Sheva doesn't have ties to Leon or Raccoon City, but if any minor character deserves a comeback for Requiem it's easily her. Inย Resident Evil 5, she proved she could hold her own alongside against Chris Redfield in his boulder-punching era, and we'd love to see her back in action.

Sheva has only ever appeared in the one game, and yet she's still a firm cult favorite among Resi fans who would love to see her inย Requiem, somehow. As someone who also suffered terribly at the hands of Umbrella, there's no reason to suggest she might get involved in yet another operation that looks to expose the corporation's many atrocities.

Bringing Sheva back forย Requiem would also give Capcom a chance to fix some of the racial and cultural insensitivities that make Resident Evil 5 uncomfortable to play. Sheva deserves better, and now's the right time to give it to her.

  • HUNK

Capcom heard our cries of “bring back the hunk!” and thought we meant Leon, huh. While we're happy to see Leon in his hot uncle era, there's another HUNK we're desperate to see, and that's the mysterious Alpha Team leader last seen inย Resident Evil 4‘s The Mercenaries minigame.

HUNK remains one of theย Resident Evil series' most enigmatic characters – hell, we don't even know what he looks like under that mask – so we'd love to see him return in any capacity. Given that he was at the forefront of Operation: Nestwrecker inย Resident Evil 2, HUNK has more than enough history with Umbrella and Raccoon City to justify a return forย Resident Evil Requiem.

  • Ashley Graham

With her hilariously irritating cries for help and her TikTok aesthetic-inspiring outfit, it's no wonder Ashley Graham has become such a beloved character in theย Resident Evil series, despite only appearing in one game.

Ashley might not have direct ties to Raccoon City, but she does have ties to Leon after he rescued her from Los Illuminados inย Resident Evil 4. Considering that her birthday is canonically confirmed to be in 1984, Ashley would be in her early to mid 40s at the time of Requiem –ย definitely old enough to have followed in her father's footsteps to become President of the United States.

We could easily picture Ashley returning for a minor role in Resident Evil Requiem, consulting with Leon about his latest mission and probably fudging more than a few laws so he doesn't have to face any legal ramifications for his more unorthodox tactics in the field.

  • Barry Burton

When it comes to cheesy one liners, only one man can come for Leon's crown, and that's Barry Burton. The combat specialist did coin the infamous phrase ‘Jill Sandwich', after all. The former S.T.A.R.S. member has appeared numerous times across the Resident Evil series, starting where it all began inย Resident Evil and most recently inย Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

Barry has history in Raccoon City, having rescued Jill and Carlos before it was totally destroyed. Ifย Resident Evil Requiem is all about the survivors left behind, Barry could easily be making an appearance, helping Leon with his current investigation.

However, as Barry was in his early 60s in Resident Evil Revelations 2, set sometime in the 2010s, he's probably well into his 70s, possibly even 80s, by now, meaning he probably won't be all that interested in getting his hands dirty with boots-on-the-ground combat again. Give Grampa Barry a break.

  • Rose Winters

Upon first look atย Resident Evil Requiem, many fans commented that newcomer Grace Ashcroft looks a lot likeย Resident Evil Village‘s Rose Winters, leading to rumors and speculation that the pair are actually the same person.

As the daughter ofย Village protagonist Ethan Winters, Rose took a back seat for most of the game (being a baby, and all), until the ending, plus the later DLCย Shadows of Rose, where it was revealed that that Rose has considerable powers from the Megamycete fungus, and was taken into protective custody by Chris Redfield. The theory that Grace could be Rose under a new alias should, on paper, be a solid one.

However, the timelines don't quite add up.ย Requiem takes place roughly a decade prior to Shadows of Rose,ย meaning that if Rose was to be part of the new game, she'll still be a little girl. While it's not aย huge stretch to imagine Rose might show up (children have been playable characters in Resident Evil games prior, after all), it's probably more wishful thinking than anything else.Village set up an exciting new arc for Rose, and we're keen to see where her abilities take her next – but it probably won't be in Requiem.
