WOLF CREEK: LEGACY: John Jarratt Returns For WOLF CREEK Australian Horror Reboot

Original creator Greg McLean will return as producer, with Sean Lahiff directing.

Grisly Aussie horror classic Wolf Creek is getting a reboot in Wolf Creek: Legacy, with original creator Greg McLean returning as producer, and John Jarratt returning as the terrifying Mick Taylor.

According to Deadline, who reported the news exclusively earlier today, Wolf Creek: Legacy will be directed by Wolf Creek 2 editor Sean Lahiff, with Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt, The Babadook producer Kristian Moliere and Bianca Martino all producing.

Released in 2005, the original Wolf Creek followed a group of backpackers in the Australian Outback, hunted by sadistic killer Mick Taylor. The film was an Australian box office breakout, making $30M global off a $1M budget. A sequel followed in 2013 (Wolf Creek 2) and a television series that aired from 2016-2017.

According to Deadline, Wolf Creek: Legacy is set to follow:

This time around itโ€™s a family of American tourists who wander innocently into Taylorโ€™s hunting grounds. When the parents sacrifice themselves to save their children, the kids find themselves alone, lost and hunted in the vast Australian wilderness. Will this fresh prey โ€“ two wily, resourceful Zoomers โ€“ prove harder for the ageing predator to consume?

Deadline report that, so far, Wolf Creek: Legacy‘s cast includes Jay Ryan (It: Chapter Two), while casting is still ongoing for a young lead. The plan is to shoot in Australia in Q1, 2025.

Deadline also let us know that effects crew includes Make-Up Effects vet Larry Van Duynhoven (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Visual Effects Supervisor Marty Pepper (Talk to Me).

 In a statement from McLean:

โ€œIโ€™ve always believed in the power of fresh perspectives, and thatโ€™s why Iโ€™m thrilled to introduce Sean Lahiff as the director of Wolf Creek Legacy. Sean isnโ€™t just stepping into this world; heโ€™s been a part of it for years. This new chapter in the Wolf Creek saga is something Iโ€™m incredibly excited about: itโ€™s a bold new story that honors the roots of the franchise while pushing it into new, uncharted territory.โ€

Lahiff adds:

โ€œI aim to deliver the horror and suspense that fans of the Wolf Creek franchise and wider genre theatre goers expect but to add a new depth to the story. Weโ€™re exploring the psychological terror of being hunted, the fear and resilience of these young characters, and the nightmarish quality of the Outback itself. This is a story that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, but it will also tap into something deeper โ€“ the primal fears that dark fairytales have always played on.โ€
