Weapons, Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated Barbarian follow-up, gets its first official full trailer from Warner Bros. today and, folks, you might wanna start getting extremely hyped for this if you weren't already.
Releasing in theaters on August 8, Weapons stars Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Austin Abrams, Amy Madigan, and June Diane Raphael, with โa couple missing namesโ still to be revealed.
In the mysterious multi-story horror epic, a group of kids from Mrs Gandy's (Garner) class mysteriously disappear overnight at exactly 2:17am.
However โ speaking with EW yesterday, Cregger was keen to stress that the missing kids are but the tip of the iceberg, much like how Barbarian wasn't actually about an ominous Bill Skarsgรฅrd, despite the trailers:
โThat mystery is going to propel you through at least half of the movie, but that is not the movie [โฆ] The movie will fork and change and reinvent and go in new places. It doesn't abandon that question, believe me, but that's not the whole movie at all. By the midpoint, we've moved on to way crazier sโ than that.โ
And speaking of Barbarian, Warner Bros. has launched a website suggesting that Weapons and Barbarian are set in the same universe and potentially connected, but we'll have to wait and see.
Originally slated for release in January 2026, the R-ratedWeapons was bumped up to a summer release, demonstrating a keen amount of confidence from Warner Bros (Barbarian grossed $45.4 million worldwide against a production budget of $4.5 million). If this trailer is anything to go by, (plus the โbatshit insaneโ first-look footage from CinemaCon), Weapons could be a similarly high-grossing horror hit.
