Will Mike Mignola ever stop? It doesn’t look like it, based on the latest news from Dark Horse. The Hellboy creator is back with another graphic novel in his popular Lands Unknown Universe, following Bowling With Corpses and Other Strange Tales From Lands Unknown, as well as last month’s Uri Tupka and the Gods.
Co-created with Ben Stenbeck, Mignola’s new graphic novel, Uri Tupka and the Devils continues the fantastical story of a wayward theologian on a quest for answers, this time featuring art by Mignola, colors by Dave Stewart, and letters by Clem Robins. The book’s synopsis is as follows:
Picking up after the events of Uri Tupka and the Gods, URI TUPKA AND THE DEVILS follows the weary hero on a new quest for the secret history of the universe. After his search for the ancient gods ended with some answers and even more questions, heretic and theologian Uri Tupka travels further to discover the truth about the darkness before the world began and what it means for mankind. He visits a Baron’s library full of esoteric books beyond even Uri’s imagination. Each night in the library brings new insight and clarity, but threatens to consume Uri as his unquenchable desire for understanding sends him down a dangerous path.
“Uri has found the gods but he still has questions and so he’s gone to look for the answers—In a nightmare castle full of devils!” Mignola says. “See Uri change shape, tumble through his own inner workings and take a pretty savage beating. I put the poor guy through the wringer in this one and I feel a little bad about that, but you gotta do what you gotta do, and these “Lands Unknown’’ are not all sunshine and flowers.”
Uri Tupka and the Devils is just the latest in a continuous stream of work from Mignola in his prosperous partnership with Dark Horse. Among his other recent work is the Leonide the Vampyr series with Rachele Aragno, as well as a Hellboy spin-off series created with his brother, Todd Mignola.
Uri Tupka and the Devils hits shelves on November 16. Check out Mignola’s cover below:
