Thalassophobes beware – the deep sea just got a whole new scarier as UMIGARI, an upcoming first-person harpoon fishing horror game in which the fish get weirder and weirder, finally has a release date February 4 atย 8:00 amย UTC for PC.
UMIGARI is the latest game from Chillaโs Art, the developer behind indie Japanese horror games The Convenience Storeย andย Shinkansen 0. Set in the foggy waters off the coast of Japan, in UMIGARI, players hunt fish with a harpoon, sell their catch, buy fuel, and upgrade gear.
Althoughย UMIGARI‘s official description calls the horror intensity of the game “very light”, there's no denying it looks creepy as hell. The fishing game follows in the recent trend of “liminal horror” games and ARGs including The Exit 8 and Kane Parson's The Backrooms, both of which have film adaptations on the way from NEON and A24 respectively.
UMIGARI is set to release on February 4 for Windows and can be wishlisted on Steam right here. A free demo is also available to check out, as is the new gameplay trailer below.
