Great news, Shyamalan fans – M. Night's much-anticipated next feature, the concert-set psychological thrillerย Trap, will now hit theaters a week earlier than originally planned.
According to Deadline, Warner Bros. have shifted Trap (directed and written by Shyamalan) from its original August 9 spot to August 2. The thriller marks the first film Shyamalan has made under his new multi-year first-look producing and directing deal with Warner Bros.
Starring Josh Hartnett, Ariel Donoghue and Saleka Shyamalan,ย Trap follows:
A man and his daughter attend a pop concert where they realize theyโre at the center of a dark and sinister event. When the father notices a heightened police presence at the venue, heโs alerted to the fact that the concert was put together as an elaborate ruse to catch a serial killer. Little does the vendor who tells him this know that the killer is, weโre led to believe, Hartnett himself.
As we've already seen fromย Trap‘s first trailer, Shyamalan's signature twist may have been appeared to have been revealed – but you don'tย really think that's it, do you?
Interestingly, the new date meansย Trap will now go up against NEON's Hunter Schafer-starring Cuckoo, from director Tilman Singer, cementing August 2 for a great day for a double feature.
During the same announcement, Warner Bros. also unveiled the date for the newly-announced Blumhouse/Atomic Monster feature fromย Evil Dead Rise Lee Cronin, headed to screens on April 17, 2026.
We've already suspectedย Trap is going to be something special since hearing this from Hartnett:
Working with M. Night was one of the best experiences of my career. I think heโs a true Artist in the capitol-A sense of the word. And I think people are gonna be really surprised and excited about the movie we make. Itโs very bizarre, very dark, and itโs wild.โ
We don't doubt that for a second, Josh! Make sure you're seated forย Trap on August 2 – we'll see you at the show…
