It's time for new (and not so new) films in the top horror movies on streaming this week. There are a grand total of five new, and new to the list, films this week, so half of the movies that you may have gotten used to seeing are now gone. Ballerinas have gone on pointe this week and taken their very own spot with Pretty Lethal, which features a somewhat rare appearance for Uma Thurman in a scary movie.
If you were hankering after a killer chimpanzee movie, your wish has been granted. Johannes Robert's gory Primate is another addition to the list, so you can enjoy the simian terror at home. The surprise this week is a Mexican film from 2014 that has surged into the tally of the most-streamed terror tales, Here Comes the Devil, which really came from out of nowhere.
The newest Shudder Original film, The Mortuary Assistant, and the next frightful tale from the Poohniverse, also made the cut for the last week of March.

Pretty Lethal - Streaming on Prime
PRETTY LETHAL (Credit: IMDB) Maddie Ziegler, Iris Apatow, Lana Condor, Millicent Simmonds, Avantika, and Uma Thurman star in this story about a group of young American ballerinas who are traveling to a competition in Europe and break down near a school. The instructor and the young women decide to walk to a nearby town to call for help. Instead of help, they find themselves in a performance art hotel owned by a world-famous former ballerina, but the dancers must use their training to stay alive.
Written by Kate Freund and directed by Vicky Jewson, the film pirouetted to number one this week after being released on Prime on March 25.
Pretty Lethal is now streaming on Prime.
Sinners - Streaming on HBO Max
SINNERS (Credit: Warner Bros. Ent.) Two weeks after the Academy Award ceremony, people still haven't stopped talking about or watching Sinners. One of the most recent discoveries on social media is the scene in which Remmick lands in the shot, smoking from the setting sun and running towards a home where he hopes to find safety from the Choctaw vampire hunters. Other scenes have also been used as memes to reply to people on social media.
The film stars Oscar Winner Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo, and was directed, produced, and written by Academy Award winner Ryan Coogler. It's just nice to be able to say that about this film.
Primate - Streaming on Paramount+
PRIMATE (Credit: IMDb) In another late-month release, Primate came to Paramount+ on March 25 and immediately joined the ranks of the top horror movies streaming this week. Filmmaker Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down, The Strangers: Prey at Night, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) directs this movie about a family that has adopted a chimpanzee, which was taught to communicate via a tablet computer, which gives him a voice.
When the chimpanzee begins to become violent, the family and friends are trapped in their own home by the highly intelligent creature, Ben. Johnny Sequoyah, Jessica Alexander, Victoria Wyant, Gia Hunter, Benjamin Cheng, and Troy Kotsur star in the film, which was co-written by Roberts and Ernest Riera.
Primate is now streaming on Paramount+.
Weapons - Streaming on Prime
WEAPONS (Credit: IMDb) Zach Cregger's unpredictable and Academy Award-winning horror comedy, Weapons, slips one notch to fourth place this week. Amy Madigan's win for her performance as Aunt Gladys in the film was the sixth time an actor has won the award for a role in a scary movie. Michael B. Jordan's win later in the ceremony happily brought that total to seven.
Without too many spoilers, it is interesting to note that the title of the film is a big clue to what is actually happening in the movie. It's not easy to guess before you watch the film, but Cregger put it right out in the open for everyone to see, which becomes obvious as the end credits roll.
The Long Walk - Streaming on Starz
THE LONG WALK (Credit: IMDb) Francis Lawrence's masterful movie hasn't moved a muscle on the countdown since last week and remains at number five. When people wonder why young men would join such a contest, it is made clear as you watch. 18-year-olds feel invulnerable, and each one of them thinks they will win and survive. It's the same reason why the age to enlist in the armed forces is eighteen.
It is only as the miles roll on and as they become weary beyond their limits that the young men, including cast members Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Joshua Odjick, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Josh Hamilton, realize that they are not immortal and are, in fact, all too fragile, as Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill look on. It is a realization that comes to the viewers as they watch, too.
The Long Walk is now streaming on Starz.
Here Comes the Devil - Streaming on Prime
HERE COMES THE DEVIL (Credit: IMDb) This Mexican fright film from 2014 has found fans when it was made available on Prime. Even though it has been available on streaming since it was originally released, it has really caught on this time. Joining the top ten after twelve years is no small accomplishment. Directed by Adrian Garcia Bogliano, it stars Francisco Barreiro, Alan Martinez, Michele Garcia, and Laura Caro.
After their children go missing for a night in a cave in a hill that locals say is cursed, an earthquake is the first of many disturbing events. The two parents become distraught as they try to find out what really happened to their children and what is behind the evil that has come into their lives.
Here Comes the Devil is now streaming on Prime.
28 Years Later - Streaming on Netflix
28 YEARS LATER (Credit: IMDb) It is almost time for the sequel to 28 Years Later to be released on streaming, which means you can do a mini-marathon of the two halves of the story starting on March 31. Both films will be available on Netflix on that day, and the sequel will likely join 28 Years Later in the top ten next week. 28 Years Later is different from the other two films in the series, which were both standalone stories unconnected to each other, except that they take place during the rage infection epidemic.
The film's haunting first trailer, set to the song from the Young Fathers, which used a 1915 recording by actor Taylor Holmes of the 1903 poem “Boots” by Rudyard Kipling, as well as music and a clip from the oddly disturbing children's show Teletubbies, set the tone for this new direction in the series. You could tell that the films would be wilder and weirder this time out, but still drenched in English culture.
28 Years Later is now streaming on Netflix.
Frankenstein - Streaming on Netflix
FRANKENSTEIN (Credit: Ken Woroner/Netflix) It took 19 years for Guillermo del Toro to bring his very faithful version of Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein to the screen. The interpretation saw many different conceptualizations before the film was released. One of del Toro's frequent collaborators, actor Doug Jones, and Andrew Garfield were both cast as the Creature, the role that finally went to Jacob Elordi. Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz were the actors who would play the roles in the film.
Jacob Elordi spent ten hours in the makeup chair to be ready to play the Creature. With 42 prosthetics all over Elordi's body, it was a task in itself for the actor, who was reportedly very patient. According to Elle, it took far less time to remove the makeup at a mere 90 minutes.
Frankenstein is now streaming on Netflix.
The Mortuary Assistant - Streaming on Shudder
THE MORTUARY ASSISTANT (Credit: IMDb) Based on a Dread XP video game from 2022, this Shudder Original has scared up a whole lot of views in its first week of streaming release. Willa Holland and Paul Sparks star in the film directed by Jeremiah Kipp (Slapface). As a new mortician who embalms corpses on the night shift, Rebecca Owens begins to notice the out-of-the-ordinary things occurring until the terror begins to overwhelm her.
The film was previewed at Comic Con 2025 by Shudder after the announcement that the streamer had acquired the film, and the demon-haunted world of River Fields was made available on streaming on March 27.
The Mortuary Assistant is now streaming on AMC+ and Shudder.
Bambi: The Reckoning - Streaming on Peacock
BAMBI: THE RECKONING (Credit: IMDB) If you are one of the people who have always wanted to see Bambi get his vengeance, this is likely the movie for you. Bambi: The Reckoning is the fourth movie from The Twisted Childhood Universe or the Poohniverse, from English filmmaker Rhys Frake-Waterfield. The series adapts childhood favorites that have entered the public domain into bloody and violent movies.
Updated for 2025 from the 1923 novel, Bambi is an innocent fawn who loses his mother and then his mate to violence and drinks water from a stream contaminated by toxic waste, which turns him into a vengeful monster determined to punish those responsible for his pain and his family's tragedy.
Bambi: The Reckoning is now streaming on Peacock.
