Ask a hundred horror fans what one of the most iconic scary movies ever made is, and youโ€™ll undoubtedly hear The Thing mentioned at least fifty times, if not more. Its legacy has been firmly cemented in film history, and the folks behind In Search of Darkness are highlighting its rich history with The Thing Expanded, which FANGORIA is excited to debut an exclusive clip from today.ย

Our clip features a handful of Hollywood stars discussing the filmโ€™s enduring cult legacy, one that was built out of an initial failure to launch with audiences when it was released. Horror auteur Guillermo del Toro says that The Thing โ€œattained the highest honor Iโ€™ve seen a horror movie attain, which isโ€ฆthe audience first rejects it,โ€ while star Kurt Russell says he appreciates Carpenterโ€™s vision and unwillingness to sacrifice it for the sake of being appealing to the audiences of the โ€˜80s. Carpenter himself also makes an appearance, saying with his trademark self-assurance that he โ€œwouldnโ€™t change a frame of it.โ€ Neither would we, sir.ย

All five-plus hours of The Thing Expanded feature interviews not only with Russell and Carpenter, but with all of the filmโ€™s living cast members, including Keith David, Thomas G. Waites, and David Clennon. Directed by Ian Nathan, the film also compiles interviews with crew members from the film along with other Hollywood veterans and insiders, including del Toro, Frank Darabont, Issa Lรณpez, Matt Winston, Alec Gillis, Greg Nicotero, Chuck Russell, Eli Roth, Mick Garris, and Stephen Colbert.

The Thing Expanded is produced by Robin Block, David Weiner, and Josh Weiss, and the film is available to pre-order now. Numerous pre-order packages are available now, including the basic Blu-ray package, which features the film in its own slipcase, a 32-page booklet on the project, two posters, a sew-on patch, and digital downloads of the film and its soundtrack

Pre-orders for The Thing Expanded are open now through March 24 via CREATORVCโ€™s website.ย
