Glen Powell is running straight to streaming this week. Thatโ€™s right, Edgar Wrightโ€™s adaptation of Sci-fi classic The Running Man will be available to watch on Paramount+ starting tomorrow, January 13, bringing the latest Stephen King film to the comfort of your couch.ย

The Powell-led adaptation, which also stars Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, and Lee Pace, joins its predecessor of the same name (starring โ€˜80s action hero Arnold Schwarzenegger) on Paramount+, making for a perfect back to back movie marathon. Ironically, The Running Man also joins another Powell-led action film available on the streamer: Top Gun: Maverick, which shot the Richard Linklater collaborator and former Scream Queens star into the stratosphere when it premiered in 2022.ย

This wonโ€™t be the last time we see Powell in a horror-adjacent film though, at least for now. Heโ€™s also set to star in the upcoming A24 thriller How to Make a Killing, where he stars alongside Margaret Qualley as a disowned member of a wealthy family determined to claim his inheritance by any means necessary โ€” even violent ones.ย

Directed by Wright from a script he co-wrote with Michael Bacall, The Running Man stays far truer to Kingโ€™s original novel (published under his Richard Bachman pen name) than the Schwarzenegger film, though this newer version was less of a box office hit. The film โ€” also featuring Michael Cera and Queens of the Deadโ€™s Katy Oโ€™Brian โ€” made $68 million globally, with average ratings from most critics. King, however, approved of the adaptation, which is the only stamp of approval weโ€™ll ever need.ย

The Running Man was just the latest in a long line of King movies and TV shows to be released, accompanying projects like The Long Walk in theaters and IT: Welcome to Derry on HBO Max. Also upcoming is Mike Flanaganโ€™s Carrie series, a film version of his short story Mister Yummy, and a second season of The Institute on MGM+, among many, many others.ย

The Running Man hits Paramount+ on January 13.
