Ahead of a suitably blasphemous summer release date of June 6, demonic horror The Ritual gets a brand new trailer today from XYZ Films.
Starring Dan Stevens (Cuckoo, Abigail, A24's upcoming gonzo action horror Onslaught) and acting legend Al Pacino, The Ritual comes from director David Midell and is based on the real-life possession case of Anna Ecklund aka Emma Schmidt:
“The Ritual follows two priests — one questioning his faith (Stevens) and one reckoning with a troubled past (Pacino) — who must put aside their differences to save a possessed young woman through a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms. The film is an authentic portrayal of Emma Schmidt, an American woman whose demonic possession culminated in harrowing exorcisms. Her case remains the most thoroughly documented exorcism in American history.”
Also starring in The Ritualare Twilight alum Ashley Greene and Ashley Cowan.
Pacino plays the role of Father Theophilus Riesinger, a friar and priest who performed exorcisms across the United States in the 1900s.
The Ritual was co-written by Midell and Enrico Natale. Natale serves as a producer alongside Andrew Stevens and Mitchell Welch.
