Following big success at the box office, a sequel is officially in development to Paul Feig's erotic thriller The Housemaid, with star Sydney Sweeney set to return.
Officially titledย The Housemaid's Secret, the sequel is based on the second novel in Freida McFaddenโs best-selling trilogy, with Lionsgate planning for production to start later this year. Michele Morrone will also return to star. At the Palm Springs International Film Festival, star Amanda Seyfried also teased she would have a “small cameo”.
The R-rated The Housemaid saw Sweeney play Millie, a struggling woman who is relieved to get a fresh start as a housemaid to Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Drop's Brandon Sklenar), an upscale, wealthy couple. She soon learns that the familyโs secrets are far more dangerous than her own:
What begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous โ a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchestersโ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.

Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine will return to adapt the sequel, which follows Millie's next moves. Hidden Picturesโ Todd Lieberman and Pretty Dangerous Picturesโ Feig and Laura Fischer will produce, with Sweeney and McFadden returning as executive producers alongside Hidden Picturesโ Carly Elter and Alex Young.
Per Variety, Feig had the following to say about helmingย The Housemaid's Secret:
โItโs been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew […] Weโre lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millieโs journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.โ
Critics were enamoured by The Housemaidย following its release late last year, with Fango's Amelia Emberwing praising the film's intentionally trashy tone and satisfying gore scenes.
Look out for more onย The Housemaid's Secret as we get it.
