We've been saying for a while that an animal attack renaissance is upon us (see: Primate, Dangerous Animals, Hungry, Tina Romero's big gay shark horror movie, to name but a few), and today's news of a new killer crocodile horror-thriller just confirms that.

Just landed at Lionsgate, the survival spec from Kas Graham and Rebecca Pollock is officially titled The Death Roll, and will be produced by The Running Man star Glen Powell (also currently working on A24's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre series) and Dan Cohen via their Barnstorm banner.

Per Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, The Death Roll follows a couple whose dream vacation turns into a nightmare when they encounter the unexpected: an invasive 15-foot saltwater crocodile.

Bryan Haas (The Order) will also produce via his Chasing Epic Pictures, with Barnstorm’s Ryan Schwartz executive producing. No news yet on cast.

The humble crocodile (and its toothy cousin the alligator) has a long and storied history in horror, with notable titles including Tobe Hooper's Eaten Alive and Crocodile, Primeval, Aussie horror Black Water, 2019's Crawl starring Kaya Scodelario, and the Lake Placid series to name but a few.

Look out for more on The Death Roll as we get it, and for more reptilian scares, here's five of our favorite sssskin-crawling snake horror movies.
