We’ve got another American remake of a foreign horror film coming our way. Deadline reports that Emmy winner Noah Hawley is set to direct and produce a reimagining of Demián Rugna’s Argentinian film Terrified, a supernatural horror film that originally premiered in 2017.
According to Deadline, Hawley is developing the remake “in close collaboration” with Rugna, and will be producing the film under his banner 26 Keys. Not much else is known about the project at the moment — Deadline originally reported that Guillermo del Toro had signed on to produce an American remake of the film just months after it premiered in the US, but it seems like this an entirely separate project.

The original Terrified stars Maximiliano Ghione and Norberto Gonzalo, with Rugna directing from his own script. The film, which won best horror feature at Fantastic Fest 2018, “follows a team of paranormal investigators as they probe a series of inexplicable, terrifying events in a Buenos Aires neighborhood, uncovering a malevolent force that defies logic.” The film is Rugna’s third, preceding his work with Shudder on When Evil Lurks.
The remake of Terrified will be Hawley’s first feature film since he directed Lucy in the Sky in 2019. Since then, he’s primarily focused on television, producing the Emmy-winning Fargo series, as well as FX’s dark Marvel Comics series Legion, and the first television show in the Alien franchise, Alien: Earth. (The latter is also set to return for a second season, so it’ll be interesting to see how Terrified fits into Hawley’s busy schedule.)
No release date has been announced for the Terrified remake. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
