It Might Be A While Before We See A TALK TO ME Sequel

TALK TO ME 2? TALK 2 ME?

When the Philippou Brothers burst onto the scene with their 2023 debut Talk to Me, which featured Sophie Wilde as a teenager possessed by a dark force after a childish game goes wrong, it changed the horror game forever. The film was a breakaway success, earning over $90 million on a budget of only $4.5 million, becoming A24โ€™s highest-earning horror film and earning itself a sequel, which is currently in development. But it looks like that sequel wonโ€™t be arriving any time soon. According to IndieWire, the directing duo have plenty in line ahead of the sequel, despite the originalโ€™s breakaway success.

Per Bloody Disgusting, who dug up the quotes from IndieWireโ€™s interview with the brothers, itโ€™s a problem of having too many options. The directors currently have two different ideas in development for the sequel, and canโ€™t decide which direction to go with it. โ€œA part of it is, I canโ€™t decide which is the best avenue to take,โ€ Danny Philippou says. Theyโ€™re also working on a documentary and a new horror film, the details of which have not been released yet, so theyโ€™ve got a ton on their plates.

โ€œIโ€™d say 2025 Bring Her Back, 2026 the documentary, 2027 [the new] horror, and then Talk to Me 2,โ€ Michael Philippou said of when to expect each of their new projects.  โ€œMaybe, I donโ€™t know.โ€ Itโ€™s no wonder they dropped out of the upcoming Street Fighter reboot โ€” even with two of them, thatโ€™s a huge workload.

But for anyone dying to see more from the brothers, they donโ€™t have to wait long. Theyโ€™ve got their next horror project hitting theaters in May: Bring Her Back, a witchy supernatural film starring Sally Hawkins. The film will deal with similar themes of life and death โ€” and what happens when you breach the wall between them โ€” as Talk to Me, this time on an even grander scale.

The Talk to Me sequel has not yet set a release date, but Bring Her Back hits theaters on May 30. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
