The race to the Oscars is heating up for horror, with last night's Actor Awards (previously known as the Screen Actors Guild or SAG Awards) seeing our favorite genre take home some top prizes.
Ryan Coogler's Sinners won big at the ceremony, where winners are voted for by fellow actors, with star Michael B. Jordan taking home Best Actor for his dual role as twins Smoke and Stack in the vampire epic, and the cast, which also includes Wunmi Mosaku, Delroy Lindo and Jack O'Connell, picking up Best Ensemble Cast.
Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress for her role as witchy Aunt Gladys in Zach Cregger's Weapons, a category in which she is also nominated in at the upcoming Academy Awards.
Elsewhere, Beetlejuice icon, the late Catherine O'Hara, won Best Actress in a Comedy series, with Seth Rogen accepting her award,ย The Bride!'s Jessie Buckley scooped Best Actress for her role in Chloรฉ Zhao'sย Hamnet, while HBO'sย The Last of Us took home Best Stunt Ensemble for bringing those terrifying fungus Infected to life.
While Actor Award wins and Oscar success don't necessarily align,ย Sinners‘ success last night certainly bodes extremely well for its chances at Hollywood's biggest night, coming up on March 15. Jordan's chances of taking home Best Actor are now likelier than ever after he beat out Marty Supreme‘s Timothรฉe Chalamet, who was predicted to take home the award at last night's ceremony. Whatever happens, with a record-breaking sixteen nominations, the Oscars is already set to beย Sinners‘ night through and through. We've already laid out why the pic deserves to win an Oscar or two, and now chances are better than ever before. Stay tuned.
