The seventh entry into the iconic slasher franchise Scream has set a release date of February 27, 2026, as announced on social media today by returning star and final girl Neve Campbell.
Campbell, who will return to the role of Sidney Prescott after sitting out Scream VI due to a salary dispute, posted on Instagram (seen below) teasing a “killer 2026”, and Ghostface's signature hunting knife.
Alongside Campbell, Scream creator and sequel director Kevin Williamson will return for directing duties. Courteney Cox is also in talks to reprise her role as fan favorite Gale Weathers.
The future of Scream 7 was up in the air for a while, with production notoriously beleaguered by multiple controversial departures and firings, including stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega no longer returning for their roles as sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter, and director Christopher Landon also leaving the project. Add to this the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes and it seemed we were destined for no more Ghostface.
But it seems that Scream VII is back in business, although further plot and casting details are still under wraps. What little we do know suggests that the slasher sequel is very much a Sidney Prescott story, with Campbell teasing that:
โWe are going to follow Sidney […] They did pitch the concept to me, and itโs the reason that I jumped on board.โ
We'll bring you more updates on Scream VII when they slash in.
