It’s hard to believe it’s been fifteen years since Scream 4 premiered in theaters, but Lionsgate has something special up their sleeve to keep us from feeling too old because of it. They’re releasing the slasher sequel on 4K this summer, with some new physical formats to add to our collections.
Debuting in 2011, Scream 4 was the last film in the franchise to be directed by Wes Craven, with a script by Kevin Williamson, who would go on to direct Scream 7. Starring Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Emma Roberts, Courteney Cox, and Hayden Panettierre, the film’s synopsis is as follows:
It’s the anniversary of the original Ghostface murders, and Sidney has returned to Woodsboro to promote her new book about surviving the masked killer. But Ghostface still haunts Woodsboro – slashing through Jill’s circle of friends, outwitting Sheriff Dewey, taunting tough-skinned reporter Gale…and relentlessly stalking Sidney, Ghostface’s ultimate prize.

The film is being remastered in 4K on a whole host of new formats, including Blu-ray, digital, and VHS, the former of which comes with a brand new steelbook design featuring Ghostface. New special features include featurettes “The Meta of Scream,” “Rebooting the Franchise,” “Ghostface Revealed,” and “Wes Craven: The Maestro of Scream,” as well as numerous legacy extras previously featured on other releases, including deleted scenes, an alternate opening and extended ending, a gag reel, and a commentary with Craven, Roberts, Panettiere, and Campbell.
Scream 4 was the last film to be released in the franchise before Craven’s death in 2015, and the last before the franchise went on hiatus until 2022, when Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett took over as directors for the unhelpfully-titled Scream. Since then, two more films have been released, though the future of the franchise beyond this year’s Scream 7 is still up in the air.
Scream 4 arrives on Blu-ray and VHS on June 9, with pre-orders open now.
