Two scream queens are uniting to maximize their joint final girl potential. Shudder has just announced their newest survival slasher, River, with Happy Death Dayโs Jessica Rothe and Evil Dead alum Jane Levy leading the film, to be directed by first time director Joshua Giuliano.ย
The Shudder Original is also set to star Dane DiLiegro and Max Mattern, and is set for a theatrical release at an unknown date in the future, as has been the case for previous films produced by the horror streamer. The filmโs synopsis is as follows:ย
Three estranged siblings reunite in their hometown after the death of their father, and they set out to scatter his ashes at his favorite spot on a remote river. But when their boat breaks down, the trip devolves into a waking nightmare. Stranded miles from help with no cell service, they soon realize theyโre being stalked by a faceless killer who has emerged from the woods. To survive the night, the siblings must put their long-standing grudges aside and fight together against a ruthless, almost mythic terror.
โโRiverโ was six years in the making, a labor of love that culminated in the most rewarding experience of my life,โ Giuliano says. โWorking with Shudder has been a thrilling collaboration and knowing โRiverโ will have a theatrical release is a dream come true. I look forward to sharing our terrifying creation with audiences.โ
Riverโs producers include Steven Schneider, Nick Antosca, and Alex Hedlund, along with executive producers Jeffrey and Robert Tinnell, Matt Brodlie, and Jonathan Kier.ย ย
โJosh is a striking new voice in horror,โ said Nicholas Lazo, Shudderโs VP of development and production. โHis simultaneously beautiful and horrifying script captivated us from page one, and itโs our privilege to team up with such an immensely talented group of producers, cast and crew to bring his feature debut to life.โ
No release date has been set for River. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates as they arrive.
