REGINALD THE VAMPIRE Season 3 Is Not Happening At Syfy

The horror/comedy series has been canceled by the network after two seasons.

Apologies to fans of Reginald the Vampire as the horror/comedy series will not be back for a third season. As reported by TVLine, Syfy has decided to cancel the show after just two seasons. The decision comes mere days after the season 2 finale aired on July 10, meaning that it was most likely not a difficult call for the network to make. Be it a ratings issue, a money issue, or some combination of the two, the math just didnโ€™t add up to bring Jacob Batalon and the rest of the cast back for more.ย

Reginald the Vampire season 2 premiered on Syfy in May, following the conclusion of the showโ€™s first season in December 2022. That was a pretty long break between seasons, which can largely be chalked up to last yearโ€™s Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild of America strikes, both of which shut down Hollywood for months on end. Whether or not that longer break hurt the showโ€™s audience is difficult to say. Whatever the case, the season 2 finale, titled Just Like Heaven, now effectively serves as the series finale, even if that wasnโ€™t originally the plan.ย

Batalon, known best for his work as Ned Leeds in the recent Spider-Man films alongside Tom Hollandโ€™s Peter Parker, led the cast as Reginald. The ensembles also included the likes of Mandela Van Peebles (Wu-Tang: An American Saga), Em Haine (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Savannah Basley (SurrealEstate), Aren Buchholz (Summer of โ€˜84), Christin Park (Charmed), Georgia Waters (Siren), Sean Yves Lessard (Midnight Whispers) and Max Montesi (The 100). The show was based on Johnny B. Truantโ€™s Fat Vampire book series. The synopsis for the second season reads as follows:ย

โ€œReginald Andres finally got his life together โ€“ when he was turned into a vampire. While he doesnโ€™t fit into the stereotypical expectations of what a vampire looks like โ€“ heโ€™s not chiseled or classically handsome โ€“ Reginald has found his place amongst an unlikely cohort that includes the cool vampire who sired him, the former vampire chieftain turned unexpected ally (or is she?), and his co-worker/former girlfriend.โ€ย

Meanwhile, the network has another horror show to determine the fate of as Syfy and USA Network need to make a decision on the status of Chucky season 4. Creator Don Mancini has made it clear that he knows where the show will go, should it be picked up for another season. That show wrapped up its run in early May and the brass has yet to make a ruling. Itโ€™s unclear what theyโ€™re waiting for but, at the very least, they werenโ€™t nearly as quick to give Chucky the ax. If nothing else, Mancini could always make another movie. Hereโ€™s hoping.ย
