First PSYCHOPOMP Footage Teases A New Entry Into The Creepy Kid Canon

Shawnee Smith stars in the supernatural horror thriller produced by FINAL DESTINATION's Jeffrey Reddick.

Supernatural horror thriller Psychopomp from writer/director Paul Etheredge (Hellbent, Angel of Death, Eli Rothโ€™s History of Horror) has been picked up by Film Mode Entertainment ahead of an American Film Market premiere this week.

Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick produced the film, described as “a horrifying dream gone terribly wrong, dissecting family, infertility, and a supernatural adversary born from a nightmare”,

Psychopomp stars Saw legend Shawnee Smith, Olivia Macklin (The Young Pope), Dylan McTee (Wrong Turn, Sweet), Avangeline Friedlander (The Winchesters), Lily D. Moore (Never Have I Ever), and Morgana Shaw (Hit Man).

In Psychopomp:

Psychopomp follows a couple, Robin and Daniel – long struggling with infertility –  as they realize their dreams of parenthood by welcoming an orphan, Kathelia, into their home. However, those dreams crack under the weight of Katheliaโ€™s erratic behavior, which only becomes more frighting when Robin discovers sheโ€™s inexplicably pregnant.

Director Etheredge spoke on the – very personal – influences behind creating Psychopomp:

Psychopomp was born from a nightmare. On my honeymoon, I dreamed of caring for a child, even as it literally tore my new family apart […] Firstly, though, Psychopomp is a horror movie: thrilling, scary, grotesque, fun, and funny.

Reddick adds:

Aside from the compelling characters, dark humor, and constant sense of dread, I was really drawn to Psychopomp because of the emotional reality of the storyI have heard so many heart-wrenching stories about the trauma of children, especially for children of color, being shuffled from foster home to home and never having a sense of safety or belonging.  So, we have a young girl, whoโ€™s never felt safe and a family adjusting to being new parents who find themselves facing a terrifying force that threatens to destroy them all.

With Film Mode Entertainment taking on global sales for Psychopomp, hopefully we'll have concrete information on a release date soonish. Check out the creepy first footage below, plus a new look at Smith, while you wait.
