Survival horror-action pic Primitive War officially has a sequel in the works that will see soldiers once again go up against dinosaurs.
Per Variety, who reported the news earlier today, Primitive War 2 sees Luke Sparke returning to write, direct and produce the sequel, which will “expand the scope and mythology of the franchise, pushing deeper into the Vietnam conflict zone where 1960’s warfare collides with prehistoric predators.”
Based on Ethan Pettus’ book of the same name, 2025's Primitive War starred True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten, Jeremy Piven, Tricia Helfer, Nick Wechsler, Ana Thu Nguyen and Jake Ryan. Set in Vietnam in 1968, the sci-fi horror pic followed a search and rescue team known as Vulture Squad sent to an isolated jungle valley to reveal the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon, only to be met with the ultimate Apex predators, dinosaurs.
Described as a darker, more grounded war epic, Primitive War 2 is set in the aftermath of the original film, and follows:
… a new U.S. platoon sent into an increasingly unstable valley, where competing kill zones, rival apex predators and secret Cold War agendas converge. As containment collapses, the mission becomes one of survival — and the cost of failure threatens to extend far beyond the battlefield.
In a statement, Sparks reveals more about what direction Primitive War 2 will take us:
“The first film was about discovery […] This is about escalation — what happens when control is lost, when nature adapts faster than military doctrine and when the war itself becomes secondary to what’s been unleashed.”
Pettus adds:
“I had a blast watching the first Primitive War film, and I’m excited to see how the sequel goes!”
