While its reception remains lukewarm within the horror community, Parker Finn’s Possession remake soldiers on. Paramount has officially set a 2027 release date for the upcoming film, which stars Callum Turner and Margaret Qualley in a reimagining of Andrzej Żuławski’s beloved psychological terror.
The film, while we still can’t figure out a reason for its existence, features Turner and Qualley in the roles originally occupied by Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, as a couple whose relationship goes to almost literal hell when Adjani’s Anna asks for a divorce and subsequently goes off the deep end. The remake is also set to star Diego Calva, Madeline Brewer, Emory Cohen, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and Paul Dano, with Finn directing from his own script.,
The new remake is produced by Finn and Jonathan Fass through their Bad Feeling banner, alongside Roy Lee, Andrew Childs, Marc Bienstock, and wildly enough, Robert Pattinson. (Dude, why?) In a world of ever-dwindling original ideas, we can’t help but wonder — much like fellow Fango writer Amber T mused — why this remake exists in the first place. While Disney is constantly churning out shot for shot remakes of their animated films that lose all their original heart, it seems especially egregious to take a film so rooted in its director’s own personal life and give it a new coat of paint, obscuring its original themes for the sake of a nostalgia cash grab. All I can think to ask is, girl, you dropped out of Victorian Psycho for this?
