Be careful what toys you choose to play with — they might just be deadly. Earlier this month, we got the first trailer for Poppy Playtime: Chapter 5, and now, a mysterious puzzle has revealed a new video exposing a new storyline for the upcoming PC game, and the terrifying creatures that live within it.
Taking place thirty-six years ago, the video shows off several Playtime Co. employees performing experiments on a mysterious character named Catnap, a defective toy who killed six employees. Eventually, Catnap breaks down enough to submit to the employees’ conditioning, but soon after, the video cuts to Catnap loose in the Playtime Co. factory, an angry and feral creature chasing after the scientists who tortured it — yikes.
While it’s not clear exactly how this connects to Chapter 5, it’s definitely something to keep an eye on as we approach the February release date for the game. Subtitled “Broken Things,” Chapter 5’s synopsis is as follows:
In Poppy Playtime: Chapter 5 — “Broken Things,” players must prepare to face off against the deadly puppetmaster behind the horrifying events of Playtime Co’s dark past. Solve devious puzzles and overcome dangerous obstacles as the true rotten heart at the center of Playtime Co. draws nearer. Traverse this new realm of shadows in a fight for survival (and the truth) with Playtime’s security system, Huggy Wuggy, in hot pursuit and separated from your only allies. Will you finally end this nightmare, or fall victim to the puppet master’s twisted madness?
Originally released in 2021, the puzzle survival game allows players to step into the abandoned factory of Playtime Co., where monstrous, malicious toys are out for blood against everyone they encounter — including you. Three additional chapters were released in 2022, 2024, and 2025 respectively, with a film adaptation currently in development from Legendary Entertainment.
Players will be able to solve various puzzles as they traverse the stomping grounds of The Prototype, a terrifying experiment capable of god knows what. They’ll also encounter tortured denizens of the factory living in the darkness, who may or may not be able to help in the quest to defeat The Prototype, and deal with dangerous new environmental obstacles keeping them from the center of the factory and Playtime’s greatest sins.
Poppy Playtime: Chapter 5 launches on PC on February 18, with console versions rolling out later this year. The game is available to wishlist now on Steam and Epic Games.
