Amazon MGM's Poltergeist series is moving forward with Kalinda Vazquez (Prison Break, Fear the Walking Dead) and Robbie Thompson (Supernatural, The Winchesters) have boarded the project as writers, showrunners, and executive producers, Variety reported earlier today.
Based on Tobe Hooper's 1982 supernatural horror classic of the same name, the Poltergeist series is produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.
Famously, Spielberg was instrumental in creating the original film as story creator, writer and producer. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin TV are attached as executive producers.

The original film centered on the Freeling family, who move into a new home only to discover that it is infested with a horde of ghosts. After the ghosts kidnap their young daughter, the Freelings work with a parapsychologist and a spiritual medium to free their daughter and escape the ghosts.
Following the success of Poltergeist (which gross $121 million worldwide against a budget of $10.7 million), two sequels followed in 1986 and 1988, with a remake starring Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt following in 2015 from producer Sam Raimi.
This is the first real update we've had on the Poltergeist series since it was reported back in October 2023, and more information, such as stars or plot, is still under wraps.
