Following the announcement of Luca Guadagnino's upcoming take on American Psycho, the only question that's been on everyone's lips is who will play Patrick Bateman? Despite rumors that Austin Butler had snapped up the lead, insiders are reportedly saying that Patrick Schwarzenegger (The White Lotus) is the one circling the role of the psychotic yuppie.

As reported back in October of last year, the Suspiria and Queer director is set to helm a new take on Bret Easton Ellis' controversial 1991 novel for Lionsgate, with Scott Z. Burns (Contagion, Side Effects, The Bourne Ultimatum) adapting the story for a new screenplay. Guadagnino's American Psycho would therefore not be a direct remake of Mary Harron's 2000 version.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's sources, Schwarzenegger is “very much on the radar” for top billing in Lionsgate's American Psycho, with the star himself having previously said he'd “love nothing more” than to tackle the role (also note the wink emoji here…)

THR also remind that when asked whether American Psycho was on his list of career goals, although not mentioning the film directly, Schwarzenegger did express a desire to work with Guadagnino, saying โ€œWhatโ€™s on the very top of it is to work with a person like that, like Luca.โ€

Should Schwarzenegger land the role, it won't be his first time stepping into the horror genre – he previously starred in Christopher Landon's zombie comedy Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, and the 2019 psychological horror Daniel Isn't Real alongside Miles Robbins.

Chloรซ Sevigny has also expressed interest in starring in Guadagnino's American Psycho, returning to her role as Jean from Harron's vision.

Look out for updates on American Psycho as we get them.
