It's been a long couple of years since we had confirmation that Flesh of the Gods, the upcoming feature from A24 and Mandy director Panos Cosmatos, was even happening, but horror fans can now rejoice, as the vampire thriller has officially started production as of today.
Oscar nominee Wagner Moura is set to star alongside Kristen Stewart in the new film — the former replaces Oscar Isaac, who exited the project over scheduling conflicts – which is directed by Cosmatos and written by Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en).
Flesh of the Gods follows “Raoul (Moura) and Alex (Stewart), a married couple in glittering ’80s Los Angeles who descend each evening from their luxury skyscraper condo and head into an electric nighttime realm. When they cross paths with the mysterious and enigmatic Nameless and her hard-partying cabal, Raoul and Alex are seduced into a glamorous, surrealistic world of hedonism, thrills and violence.” We couldn't be more hyped.
Along with production news, Deadline also reports that Esmé Creed-Miles (A Head Full of Ghosts), Roland Møller (Citadel) and Alba Baptista (Voltron) have also joined the cast. Production is initially taking place in the Canary Islands, Spain, with the second half of the shoot scheduled for Cologne, Germany.
Flesh of the Gods will be Cosmatos’ third feature film, and first since Mandy was released in 2018, bringing his work back to the big screen nearly a decade later. Pic is produced by Stewart, Adam McKay, Betsy Koch, Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, and Maggie McLean. The film will be distributed in the US by A24, with XYZ Films handling international sales.
Flesh of the Gods has not set a release date. Stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
