Horror movies definitely aren’t the place for solving marital problems with patience and understanding — if anything, they’re the only place they should be solved with blood. Either way, audiences will get their fill with the new horror comedy Over Your Dead Body, which just released its first trailer after premiering at SXSW.
Directed by The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone from a script by Nick Kocher and Brian McElhaney, Over Your Dead Body stars Samara Weaving, Jason Segel, Timothy Olyphant, and Juliette Lewis. The film’s synopsis is as follows:
When miserable couple Dan and Lisa retreat to a remote cabin for a romantic reset, each arrives with a secret plan to murder the other. Their carefully plotted traps and counterplots quickly unravel when a dangerous crew crashes the weekend with plans of their own. As the toxic getaway spirals into chaotic carnage, Dan and Lisa must survive the intruders, each other, and figure out if they want to save their marriage or survive it.
“At the age of eight, I fell in love with action movies, and I have worked hard to conquer my fear of suspense and horror movies,” Taccone said. “If you mashed all of those elements into a ball and then consumed that ball, it would taste like this movie. This “film” is a blend of many genres, and I had an absolute blast making it with this amazing cast.
“As a director I loved being able to show multiple different sides of myself. I feel lucky to have been part of this production and I hope the tremendous fun we all had making it, cast and crew alike, is reflected in every scene and the audience feels that love and sense of joy. If they don’t, I’m fucked.”
Over Your Dead Body is produced by Kelly McCormick, David Leitch, Aram Tertzakian, Nick Spicer, Guy Danella, Lee Kim, Tommy Wirkola, Taccone, and Andrea Scarso. The film is Weaving’s third to hit theaters this year, following the recent release of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come and the upcoming Carolina Caroline.
Over Your Dead Body hits theaters on April 24.
