Fresh off the success of Longlegs and The Monkey, Osgood Perkins' next horror feature Keeper drops in October, with NEON releasing a first teaser today.
Keeper reunites Perkins with The Monkey star Tatiana Maslany, and also stars Possessor‘s Rossif Sutherland. Written by Nick Lepard, the pic follows a couple as they escape for a romantic anniversary weekend at a secluded cabin:
When Malcolm (Sutherland) suddenly returns to the city, Liz (Maslany) finds herself isolated and in the presence of an unspeakable evil that unveils the cabin’s horrifying secrets.
Today's new teaser didn't give a whole lot away – if anything. As the video title confirms “It has no end” and well, NEON weren't kidding with that. What has no end? Check it out below for yourself and see.
The first Keeper teaser comes hot on the heels of today's news that Perkins has signed a first-look deal with NEON, and launched a new banner called Phobos, which he will run alongside Chris Ferguson.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, under the deal, NEON will serve as the home for Perkins’ projects, which he and Ferguson will produce. It will also allow Perkins and Ferguson to produce other filmmakers’ movies for NEON, who will release these projects theatrically in the United States and represent international rights.
If for some reason you've been well out of the horror loop for the past couple of years, Perkins' Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe, was a huge hit, generating $128 million on a $10 million budget, with a $75 million domestic haul making it the top grossing independent film of the year. Perkins' follow up, the Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, which starred Theo James as twins battling a cursed toy monkey, also did well, bringing in $68.6 million worldwide against a budget of $10–11 million.
NEON CEO and founder Tom Quinn clearly knows when the distributor has a big hitter on its hands, saying:
