The whole of Hollywood is one big juke joint tonight, because Michael B. Jordan just pulled a massive upset at this year’s Oscars. The Sinners star took home one of the most coveted awards of the night, winning Best Actor for his work playing twins Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler’s beloved film.
This year’s Best Actor category was a tight one, with many believing that Timothée Chalamet would take home the award for his work in Marty Supreme. (Also nominated were Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon, Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, and Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another.) But Jordan snuck in and stole the crown, cementing Sinners as a major milestone in film history.

The now Oscar-winning film marks Jordan’s fifth collaboration with Coogler, having starred in every single feature film he’s directed. Their previous collaborations include both Black Panther films, as well as the first Creed film and 2013’s Fruitvale Station. Coogler also executive produced the second and third Creed films, and their collaborations together have collectively earned a whopping twenty-nine Academy Award nominations.
Sinners marks Jordan’s first nomination and his first win at the Academy Awards. Along with the rest of the cast, Jordan has been recognized numerous times over the course of this awards season, earning Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Critics’ Choice nominations, as well as winning Best Actor at this year’s Actor Awards (formerly the SAG-AFTRA Awards.) Not too shabby for his first dip into horror!
The FANGORIA team congratulates Michael B. Jordan on his well-deserved win.
