Just a mere week after the news that Yellowjackets Season 2 will return on March 24, Showtime announced today that the Emmy-nominated drama has been renewed for a third season.

Chris McCarthy, President/CEO of Showtime and Paramount Media Networks had this to say of the exciting decision;

โ€œWith Yellowjackets' runaway success in season one and the pent-up anticipation for season two, we wanted to maximize the momentum by fast tracking season three now […] the showโ€™s ambition is only exceeded by its execution, and I thank the incredible creative team behind it, including Ashley, Bart, Jonathan, eOne and the Showtime team, for turning this into such a success.

McCarthy also added that the early renewal โ€œdemonstrates our strong commitment to the show and its ability to continue to grow as well as how it fits clearly within a Showtime brand.โ€

The series, created byย Narcos‘ Ashley Lyleย andย Bart Nickerson, has been described as being โ€œequal parts survival epic, psychological horror story and coming-of-age drama”, and follows a group of high school soccer players who, after a devastating plane crash, descend into savagery. Season 1 had a cast full of genre cinema icons such as Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis, while Season 2 will see Elijah Wood, Simon Kessell, Lauren Ambrose and Nuha Jes Izman join the roster.

With a 100% scoring on Rotten Tomatoes, seven Emmy nominations and more than 5 million weekly viewers, Yellowjackets already secured an early Season 2 renewal around this time last year. Let's hope this trend continues for another, oh, ten or twenty seasons please?
