We’ve been waiting for any morsel of news about MaXXXine, the third chapter of Ti West’s Mia Goth trilogy, and today comes a teaser featuring a cast list that’s just absolute chaos.
Joining The Chainsaw Award-nominated Ms. Goth are the very tall Elizabeth Debicki (The Crown, Widows), the very new-to-movies Moses Sumney (The Idol), Michelle Monaghan (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the Mission: Impossible films), reliable sleazeball Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire), the heretofore genteel Lily Collins (Emily in Paris, Mank), pop star Halsey (!!), as well as screen legends Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Do the Right Thing) and Kevin Bacon (Tremors, Hollow Man, Friday the 13th) himself. Wow!
That’s an eclectic lineup chosen to depict Maxine’s ‘80s years in Hollywood. If X was Ti West’s slasher riff and Pearl was his pandemic-induced fever dream, what will MaXXXine present as? Some kind of bastard child of Ken Russell and Gary Sherman, picking up the scuzzy mantle of Crimes of Passion and Vice Squad? Christ, I hope so.
I just hope it’s not actually shot on video.
