The producers of the Chainsaw Award-nominated The Stylist are back at it with their new upcoming film, Black Mold. Jill Gevargizian (The Stylist) is a co-producer on this one, with John Pata in the Black Mold director’s chair. This tight-knit group of filmmakers has been working together for nearly a decade, and according to Gevargizian, much of the crew here is the same from The Stylist, including the director of photography, production designer, costume designer, composer, and more.

Black Mold follows an auspicious photographer as she explores a decrepit, abandoned facility and faces off against her traumatic past. The cast includes Agnes Albright (True Detective, Castle), Andrew Bailes (No Resolution), Caito Aase (upcoming Revealer), and Jeremy Holm (House of Cards, Mr. Robot, The Ranger). As of yesterday, Black Mold has officially begun filming “in a historic small town in Illinois.”

Writer-director John Pata says, “Black Mold encompasses many of my own photographic experiences, as well as my journey with mental health, and the ongoing acceptance of losing my father at a young age. The film explores the dangers that can surface at the intersection of artistic pursuits and internal sabotage.” On her role as co-producer, Gevargizian cites Pata as a big inspiration, “John was a huge inspiration for me when I first got into directing. It’s a pleasure to do whatever I can to help get him back in the director’s chair.”

Pata also co-wrote and directed the Rondo-nominated, award-winning survival horror/post-apocalyptic love story Dead Weight. His short film Pity, exploded on the film festival scene and he has since edited both the short and feature film versions of The Stylist, released by Arrow Video last year.

Black Mold is being produced by Shatterglass Films, Sixx Tape, Claw Productions, Kernel Productions, with Head Trauma Productions and The Line Film Company. Follow the journey, behind the scenes with the cast and crew, on the film’s social media pages: Twitter, IG, Facebook, and TikTok.
