No sooner do we award the first-ever Best Documentary trophy at the 2022 Chainsaw Awards than does the race for 2023’s honors begin!

Today Shudder premieres The Found Footage Phenomenon, a new doc from filmmakers Sarah Appleton and Phillip Escott, which chronicles the genre’s enduring relationship with the impactful faux-doc aesthetic.

As this exclusive clip illustrates, it’s a genre constantly revitalized by new tech. Watch as Derek Lee, (director, Afflicted), Alexandra Heller-Nicholas (author, Found Footage Horror Films), Eduardo Sánchez (director, The Blair Witch Project), and Lance Weiler (director, The Last Broadcast) discuss how new technologies have influenced the genre of found footage horror films over time.
